    Eligibility Criteria : A candidate should possess degree of Bachelor of law

    Age Limitation  : not more than 35 years

    Syllabus for (pre) Exam.

    Paper-I:                                                                                 time 2 hrs 150 marks

    General Knowledge

    This paper may include question based on topics relating to:

    a)     History of India & Indian culture

    b)    Geography of India

    c)     Indian polity

    d)    Current national issues

    e)     Topics of social relevance

    f)      India and the world

    g)     Indian economy

    h)    International affairs & institutions

    i)       Development in the field of:

    1 science & technology

    2 communications & space

    Paper : II                                           Time : 2 hrs                                       300 marks

    Law

    This paper will include day to day happenings around India and the world, particularly in legal spheres, acts and laws

    1.     Jurisprudence

    2.     International organization

    3.     Current international affairs

    4.     Indian constitution

    5.     Transfer of property act

    6.     Indian evidence act

    7.     Indian penal code

    8.     Civil procedure code

    9.     Criminal procedure code

    10.    Law of contract

    Syllabus for Main written exam

    The examination shall include the following subjects:

    A, paper-I: general knowledge

    This paper may include questions based on topics relating to:

    a)     History of India & Indian culture

    b)    Geography of India

    c)     Indian polity

    d)    Current national issues & topics of social relevance

    e)     India & the world

    f)      Indian economy

    g)     International affairs & institutions and

    h)    Development in the field of

                          1 science & technology

                           2 communications & space

    Note: the nature and standard of question in this paper will be such that a well educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study.

    B, paper-II: Language                                                        200 marks

    It shall comprise four question as specified below:

            i.            Essay to be written in English                                      60 marks

            ii.            English précis writing                                                  60 marks

            iii.           Translation of passage from English to Hindi              40 marks

            iv.           Translation of passage from Hindi to English              40 marks

    C, paper-III: Law-I (substantive Law)                                                    200 marks

    The question set will be restricted to the field covered by:

            i.            Law of contracts

            ii.           Partnership act

            iii.          Easements act

            iv.          Law of torts

            v.          Transfer of property act including principles of equity

            vi          Principles of equity with special reference to law of trust

           vii.         Specific relief act

          viii.          Hindu law

           ix.           Muslim law

            x.          Constitutional law

    Note: there shall be questions of 50 marks in relation to constitutional law alone:

    Paper-IV: Law-II ( procedure & evidence)

    Question set will be restricted to the field covered:

            i.            Law of evidence                

            ii.            Criminal peocedure code

           iii.            Code of civil procedure, including the principles of pleading

    Note: The question set will relate mainly to practical matters such as the framing of charges and issues the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses, the writing of judgement and the conduct of cases generally but will not be restricted to them.

    Paper-V: Law-III ( penal, revenue & local laws )                                           200 marks

    Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by

             i.            Indian panel code

             ii.           Uttar Pradesh Zamindari abolition & Land Reforms Act 1951

             iii.           U.P Urban Buildings (regulation of letting, Rent and Eviction ) Act 1972

             iv.           Uttar Pradesh Municipalities act

             v.            U.P Pancharat Raj act

            vi.            U.P consolidation of holdings act 1953

            vii.            U.P Urban (planning and development ) act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid acts.

    Note: answer to the question of local laws will be compulsory. Question pertaining to penal laws will be of 50 marks, whereas that of revenue and local law will be of 150 marks.

    Interview                                                                              100 marks

    The suitability of the candidate for employment in the Uttar Pradesh judicial service will be tested with reference to his merit giving due regard to his ability, character, personality and physique.

    Clarification

    The candidates will have a choice to answer general knowledge and law papers either in Hindi or in English.

    Notes:

            i.            The maximum number of chances a candidate is permitted to the will be four. The attempt shall be counted from appearing in this i.e 2003 (pre) exam 

    .            The marks obtained in the interview will be added to the marks obtained in the written papers and the candidate's place will depend on the aggregate of both.

        iii.            The commission reserves the right to refuse to call for an interview any candidate who has not obtained such marks in the law papers as to justify such refusal.
